Lessons at Lunch

She eyed me as I sat behind my pump, sobbing softly beneath the familiar vvv-naa vvv-naa whooshing of its mechanism as I contemplated failure and fear and fought against pain.

She sat up straighter at the table where she ate, getting my attention.

I wish I were you, she said.

Why do you say that? I asked.

Wistfully, she replied, I really want to be a mommy...

She has a knack for perspective sometimes, this girl of mine.

Oh, beautiful.

That was the hardest part this time - trying not to scare Q-ster while it hurt feeding Buster. It'll get better, it will! And in the meantime, using some formula to let your body heal isn't failure. It's about being healthy as a mom and whatever you and baby and family need - all of you.

vvv-naa, vvv-naa does not mean failure. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Let yourself heal and try anew (if that's what you want).

Aw, sweet girl!
Do you have a hospital pump? It REALLY shouldn't hurt. REALLY. Try putting hottish - not too hot - cloths on your breasts when you express.

Beck - the pumping was hurting on one side because of a duct trying to plug itself up that I was massaging out - the pump doesn't hurt, I actually quite LOVE my pump. Is that weird?

that is so sweet.

I so wish things get easier for you soon.
I probably would have thrown in the towel by now- so you are much stronger than me.
I also second what Lady m said about the formula.
happy mom = happy baby
at least that's my 2 cents.

big hugs to you.

How sweet is that?

Reminds me of the day I fell apart at the dinner table while stressing over my financial situation. 6yr old daughter came up, hugged me and whispered in my ear:
"You can have all my money in my piggy bank Mommy if you'll smile again..."
